the comparing game, it's time to end it

You know that person you compare yourself to
The one with the perfect hair
Who has more dedication to the gym than you do
Speaks with power
And always seems to be wearing a great outfit

Yeah you know her
We have all stood beside her and wished we could be her
But today that must stop
Because this comparing business is doing no one any good
In fact, all it is doing is bringing you down
So cut it out

Take a moment to look at you, and really see who you are
You are so much stronger than you give yourself credit for 
You show up
You don't give up
You face challenges and change, and find new paths to navigate down
You listen deeply and feel the world with passion
You are no slouch, even if you aren't wearing the boots you wish you were

That so called "perfect" person you are comparing yourself to
Don't be fooled, her life isn't as perfect as it seems
You may want her perfect hair, but you don't want her struggles
And believe me, there are times when she struggles
She is human after all

So quit this comparing game
Stand tall in who you are
And keep showing up
Because the world needs YOU
Exactly as you are

What is that one thing you want to do?
Get in shape
Eat healthier
Clean out the closet
Come on, you know there is something that has been lurking on your list
What is it?
Say it out loud

It is so easy to put things off
To say you'll do it tomorrow, and then say that over and over again
Beginning can be difficult

But today, yes today
Is as good a day as any to begin

If you start today I can guarantee you will be grateful you did
And most likely you won't stay on track right away
But if you keep showing up
If you say yes, instead of no
Before you know it you will begin to see progress 
And you will be blown away

You can accomplish that thing you thought you never could
You can do pushups and even pull ups
You can run three miles
You can choose to eat healthy, rather than grabbing for the chocolate
Yes, you can!  

It is not as hard as you make it up in your mind to be
And you can do it
Take that first step
Even if its a small one
Show up, even if it is for only 20 mins
Be present, stay focused, and celebrate the successes

Remember, today is as good a day as any to begin
Begin today!

seek out the beauty

Another snow storm is headed our way,
and even though I crave the warm air and sunshine I am excited with it's anticipation
It is winter after all, this is the time for the snow to greet us
I love the beauty of it
The glistening whiteness
I love putting on my snow pants and digging deep in
Snow feels so fresh 
It wakes me up
And reminds me to slow down
I love cuddling inside under the blankets watching the snow fall
There is so much grace in a single flake falling from the sky

We may not always enjoy it
It may bring about certain burdeons and delays
But remember to seek out it's beauty
Find something that makes you pause and breathe deeply in
Soak it up

almost home

I feel as if this space has been deeply neglected since I have been standing knee deep in half packed boxes, car loads of my most prized possessions, heavy lifting of furniture, and slips on the ice as I move from one space to the next.  So much has been done, yet there is still so much to do.  A refrigerator filled with food, sacred alters tucked in my closet that need to be boxed up, an office space half gone, and a basement that needs some attention.  There is also the grill and fire pit covered underneath a deep blanket of snow that will need to be dug out.  It feels like it will never end.  

But between the chaos there is beauty.  The most stunning icicles hanging from windows catching my eye, making me wish my camera was close by and not tucked away in a box.  The feel of the soft bed beneath my tired body as we sleep our very first sleep in our new space.  Things finding a place in our new home, and both of us loving the vibe that this space holds.  

I am looking forward to crossing home.  To getting the chance to finally settle in and enjoy our tiny love nest.  It is cozy, and bright and I just know we are going to have a good year here.  I can feel it in my heart and soul, and that makes me smile wide.  

Then we get to do this moving thing all over again....ugh....at least then it will be into our home.
