unresolved

snow light

Emotions running rampant
Filled with thoughts of what was
And the wondering of what could have been
The timing was never right
The beginning was all wrong
We never seemed to find our footing
And just when I think you are gone
You emerge
Unexpected and filled with dreams
Through the passing of time has come growth
We may be lifetimes apart
Yet a string of connection keeps bringing us back
Unresolved
Standing in our own perpetual darkness

2015 word of the year :: connection

With a new year in front of us and 365 days to write a brand new story I have chosen another word to tuck into my pocket and carry around with me this year.  In 2014 my word was BUILD.  As I reflect back on all that has happened I can see from a vantage point how deeply that word showed up in my life day after day.

The only way to build something is to show up day after day

A finished masterpiece does not occur with the wave of a magic wand.  It takes time to put each piece together and figure out your next steps.  You must show up and do the work.  It will not always be easy, and there will be times that you will fall off course but little by little it will come together and you will be amazed and delighted at your progress.

One of the biggest lessons I learned this year was --- show up, just show up.

When you show up you are able to build the most amazing things like a stronger body, a thriving mind, a creative spirit, deeper friendships, and memories that last a lifetime.  You will be able to do things you never thought you could  like run a marathon and teach a class at SQUAM.  You will feel your life coming together one moment at a time.

For 2015 the word that spoke most to me is CONNECTION.

Connection to me feels and looks like:

  • Deep soulful conversations with friends
  • Hand holding and long walks
  • Love and understanding
  • Grace
  • Community to create alongside with
  • Time spent together
  • Deep belly laughter
  • Digging below the surface to what truly makes your heart sing
  • Nature and fresh air
  • The ocean

For 2015 I am inviting more connection into my life.  Opening up my hands and my heart to the possibility of what that may be.  I am ready to dig deeper and throw open the door of my heart.

What about you?  Have you chosen a word for 2015?

My previous years words were:
2014 - Build
2013 - All the Cards on the Table
2012 - Soar
2011 - Love
2010 - Connect
2009 - Wings

sit with me

Come sit with me
Tell me what is right below the surface
Share your inner desires
What is moving you
What lights you up
Share your heart, your soul
Share all of you
I will hold your hand
Listen deeply to your stories
Tell me where you came from
And where you wish to go
Tell me anything and everything
Together we will laugh and cry
We will reminisce
Make plans for the future
You aren't meant to live in this world alone
So come and sit beside me
Together we will be

reaching for your dreams

Today in my brave journaling class we are exploring our dreams.  The ones that don't let us fall asleep at night because we are too excited about them.  The ones we keep quietly tucked away because we fear if we speak them out loud they may not come true.  The dreams we dream about time and time again.

Yes, we all have dreams, wishes, aspirations for our lives.  They surface at the strangest of moments and once they latch on they don't want to let go.  There is that little voice inside of you that speaks louder than all the other voices you hear and it is nudging you to follow your dreams.

How do you follow your dreams?
How do you go after what your heart is calling you to do?
What do you do if your dream feels completely impossible?

There are times when we are clutching so tightly an idea of something happening the exact way that we have it planned in our head that we lose site of the feelings that are fueling this idea.  We think if the idea doesn't unfold like we planned then it wasn't right, or there has to be more. But there will be times, many times when an idea will not go the way you thought.  Sometimes we have to let go of our plans in order to allow space for the puzzle pieces to come together.

This doesn't mean letting go of the dream entirely, but it means honing in on the feelings that the dreams stirs up and allowing space for that to unfold exactly how it is meant to unfold.  Sometimes the way we think it is suppose to be isn't the way it is meant to be.  Loosen your grip and let go of the reigns.

Once you free yourself of your exceptions you will begin to see different things you never saw before.  You will be more open to opportunity and you just never know what may appear at your doorstep.  It can be hard to let go of expectations, but it may be the most freeing thing you have ever done.

What expectations can you let go of today?
What dream do you have can you get of the way of letting it come true?

self care practice

Photography is one of my self care practices.  Having my phone on me all of the time allows me easy accessibility to snap photos of my every day moments.  It is something that is quick and simple to do and it reminds me to slow down and seek out the beauty and joy of each day.

The photos aren't perfect.  They are ordinary moments that are extraordinary because they are a part of my day.  The flower in my parents backyard.  The life of a runner captured with sweaty clothes hanging up to dry.  The rainbow I noticed because I decided to look up.  These are the moments of my days that weave together a beautiful life.  You have moments like this to.

Sometimes a month can whizz by in the blink of any eye.  With the app Project365 I am able to put my month together visually in an easy and fun way.  These monthly captures become a beautiful reminder of all that was.  There are moments that I forgot about and looking back I am reminded of the way he made the bed.  The night I sat on the porch alone writing for hours.  Crushing through 20 miles and feeling so proud for finishing.

I love having each month in photos.  At the end of the year it is going to be so lovely to look back at the months that I have and be reminded of the memories that were created.  There is so much goodness in this life.  When we pause to remember it we are reminded of how sweet the every day moments are and we are filled with joy for all that we are blessed with.  This self care practice fills me up with gratitude.

If you give this a try I would love to see your photos.
