word of the year

beach

In 2009 I ditched making resolutions that I wouldn’t keep and began the tradition of choosing one word to carry with me for the entire year. One single word that called to me and one that I wanted to dive deep into.

What I love most about this tradition is that I never know how it will unfold. There were years where it brought me the most unexpected definition and other years when it all unfolded how I thought it would. The one thing I have always found is that it brings me exactly what I need, unexpected or not.

For awhile I wasn’t sure what my word for 2019 would be but then one day while journaling it emerged.

word of the year

This is how the dictionary defines it::
verb
   * emit (energy, especially light or heat) in the form of rays or waves
   * diverge or spread from or as if from a central point

But the beauty about words is that even though they all have very specific definitions we all have our own interpretations and feelings about them.

In 2019 I want to RADIATE by giving myself permission, space, and encouragement to allow my light to shine.

I want to stand tall in who I am. Share my heart with the world. Invite others in. I want to ditch the voices that make me feel not good enough and give myself space to sparkle and shine.

It is time to unapologetically stand in my light.

And so I will take chances. Use my voice. Do and say what I know in my heart to be true. I will not apologize for being me, but rather be proud of who I am.

I know that I am constantly growing and evolving. Claiming myself and choosing to love the person I have become is an important step on my journey to my next iteration. I look forward to continue to learn. Am excited about taking chances. And know that I will continue to unearth the path I am meant to travel down.

journaling prompts

Not sure what your word is for 2019? Take a moment to pull out your notebook and respond to the following:

  • Looking back on 2018, I am most proud of …

  • Right now in this moment my heart desires …

  • One thing I want to invite more of into my life is …

Allow yourself permission to move the pen freely across the page. Do not judge what comes up. When we let go the unexpected happens and we usually find our way home.
