what you see when you run

DSC_0205.jpg

When you run you get to see some pretty neat things

> > > Like good looking guys playing a soccer game with their shirts off
> > > Your watch showing you the slow pace you are running even though feel like you are going so fast
> > > People cheering you on, like your aunt, a family friend, and even strangers
> > > Beautiful rays of sunshine streaming through the trees
> > > Cute puppies and stunning flowers
> > > And sometimes nothing because you have a terrible stitch in your side and you close your eyes hoping it will go away

You have to take the good with the bad and I am pretty certain that the good totally out weighs the bad. This is why I keep showing up time and time again.

it was here

It was here where I sat each morning at Squam Arts Workshops
Pondering the day ahead
Dreaming of what could be
Tucking moments and memories into my pockets

It was here where I was infused with inspiration and courage
I learned that I could do it
I saw myself through new eyes
I traced the journey and loved that I ended up right back here

It was here where I saw how far I have come
Stronger, braver, wiser I stood
Ready to embrace the world and connect with those around me
Open and free I knew I could take the leap

It was here where
Alongside this lake
That dreams came true
And dreams were born

Yes, it was here!

P.S. A special shout out to my dear cabin mate who noticed me out on the dock each morning and took the time to capture this moment.  I am so grateful.  xo

breathe it in

It was unexpected
A moment of color and love
Greeting me as I walked past
A simple expression of kindness and heart
Shared so freely
You could see the care that went into each stitch
You felt the gratitude and  inspiration that floated from it's thread
This intentional splash of color lifted me up
It reminded me to slow down
To pause
To look
To seek out the beauty that is around me

There is color everywhere
Brilliant shades of blues, yellows, and oranges fill the sky each night
The green grass lights up the world, filling it with hope
And tucked between there are moments of grace
Butterflies, smiles, flowers, friendship, the ocean
All of it sandwiched between the sky and the ground
Engulfing us with love and light
Do you feel it?
Breathe it in
Let it wash over you
This world is a magical place

story power

There is so much power in YOUR story.

I used to avoid my stories.  Tucking them in deep.  Afraid to face the truth.  Thinking that if I hid them no one would be able to see them.  However, the exact opposite is true.  People saw my timid behavior.  They knew there was something below the surface.  They knew they were never with me, only a version of myself that I was willing to share.

I knew this had to change.  I had to start getting real.  Start being honest.  Start telling my stories.  This very blog was the beginning of that process for me.  I had no audience, but I had a forum.  So I began.

It was easy to share the truth in my stories here because I knew {well thought} that no one was reading.  The doors of my heart swung open and spilled out what I was feeling.  Things that I would normally tuck deep down I gave a voice to.  It felt freeing to let it all come out.

People I didn't know started to comment on my post.  I had no idea how they found me, but through these comments I began to learn that I wasn't alone.  Others had the same struggles and felt the way I did.  It was a comfort to know there was someone else out there walking a similar journey.

Then there was the day I was truly found out.  The day my brother found my You Tube Dancing video and shared it with the family.  That was it.  I was no longer able to hide behind the curtain or pretend I was someone I wasn't.  They saw me, as me and it was the most freeing moment of my life.

There has been so much growth since that moment. Real honest connections.  True stories told and shared.  A freedom to be me.  And an overwhelming amount of support for who I am and what I am passionate about.  Connections strengthened and bonds formed that I didn't think were possible.  I was able to stand in my light and smile.

All of this would never have happened had I not began to tell my stories.  If I kept stuffing them into my pockets I would have just continued to weigh myself down.  It wasn't easy to be found out.  There was the moment of "oh f**k, this is going to be so embarrassing".  But I was in a better spot with myself.  I was able to laugh along with them at my silly dance moves and see the joy it brought to others.  My brothers teased me for sure, but it was with so much love.

My stories set me free.  They gave me confidence to go after my dreams.
My stories carved a path for me.  They lead me home.
My stories taught me that through truth doors open.  They made me realize that we can't hide forever.

I am so grateful for this space on the internet.  For the way it gave me permission to begin.  This space has held my journey with so much love and tenderness.  It has never once judged me and always allowed me to show up exactly as I was.  Even when I was bleeding or sad it held me.

Grant yourself permission today to tell your true stories.  Know that it may be difficult to begin, but in the end you will be so grateful you had.  Know that you deserve to stand in your own light!

ignite the spark

This week has been filled up with family celebrations and it has been so nice gathering together.  I love getting together with family because there is always so much laughter.

There was also a night of Lego Building and Painting which made me beyond happy!

My  friend Monica has been inspiring me to stay on track living a healthy and active lifestyle.  She believes that small changes = big results, and I couldn't agree more.  Monica first began by posting loads of inspiration on her facebook page and has since expanded to a blog.  FitFab 40 + is health and fitness inspiration for any age.  She just started her blog and already has some great content including being sure you are enjoying the journey and vision boarding your fitness goals.  She also has some great song choices for her workout playlist which may just inspire you to get up and get moving.  Check her out!

Have you ever watched Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld?  It is fantastic.  One of my favorite episodes is with Brian Reagan.  This week I watched Sarah Jessica Parker and loved it!  Her enthusiasm for this car was hysterical and how they reminisceabout the past.

out of shape

When you focus on one thing
You give yourself the opportunity to get really good at it
But you lose the other skills that you had cultivated along the way
You become rusty and out of shape

Laser focus can be fantastic, but it also leads to losing site of other things
When you concentrate only on your legs
Your arms become weak
You forget what it is like to pull yourself up
When you try you become sore
And you remember the first time you made the attempt

We need to keep all the wheels running
Move all the parts and keep them engaged
This is true with fitness, but also in life

When you learn a new skill you need to keep at it
Practice, practice, practice
You will never learn a new language unless you try to speak it
Every single day

When you don't try you forget
Then you are back at square one
Stay on top of your game
Avoid getting out of shape
And giving attention to all of you

You will be so grateful you did
